Our Mission

For God’s glory, the proclamation of the gospel and the edification of believers, Prison Discipleship Ministry carries out a discipleship and teaching ministry to those who are, or have been, incarcerated in the jail and prison facilities located in the central Virginia area.  PDM conducts this ministry under the authority of the James River Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church in America.

Purpose:

  1. To evangelize and disciple men and women who are currently incarcerated in area correctional institutions. This includes both on-site meetings as well as ongoing, remote correspondence with inmates.
  2. To evangelize and disciple men and women in recovery houses after their release from incarceration, through regular Bible studies and preaching.
  3. To coordinate and facilitate re-entry into the church and society those who are released from incarceration. This is done through diaconal ministry for personal needs as well as assisting with finding church homes, jobs and more permanent residences.
  4. To recruit, mobilize and train volunteers who are members of local Bible-believing churches.  This includes helping in the current facilities as well as enabling us to expand the PDM reach to more facilities of all types, as well as ministry to the individual needs.
  5. To meet with local churches and individuals to educate them about PDM and to make them aware of the needs of these people and thus build an infrastructure of churches supporting the work in all areas of this ministry.

What We Believe and Teach

The Westminster Standards

As a ministry of the James River Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church in America, we hold to the Westminster Standards:  The Westminster Confession of Faith, The Larger Catechism, and The Shorter Catechism.

We use the Westminster Standards to teach and disciple men and women in the Christian faith.
